GreenCare for Children Pledge WorksheetFor each GreenCare Standard, you can check one of two boxes:

YES for each Standard you already do or will do immediately to become a GreenCare Provider. 

Steps to Yes if you cannot meet the Standard at this time but are willing to change your practices to meet the Standard.  Note: you will have to identify and take action steps before you can change your checkmark to “YES”.

To qualify as a GreenCare Provider, you must pledge to uphold a minimum of 18 of the 25 Standards, including the 6 Required Standards, by checking the "YES" box for these Standards.

Pest Management

1)

We protect children from exposure to pesticides. (Required)


Answer “YES” if everything below is true.
If everything below is not true, answer “Steps to Yes”.

No pesticides are sprayed, dusted, or broadcast by staff, contractors, property managers, gardeners, landlords or others in or around our building or grounds

IF PESTICIDES BECOME ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, WE:
  • Notify parents and staff according to Standard #2;
  • Use kitchen- grade materials (such as soap or vinegar) that are properly mixed, labeled and stored;
  • Use self-contained, tamper resistant insect or rodent bait stations kept out of sight and reach of children; AND
    • Classrooms or play areas within 150 feet of rodent bait stations are monitored every day children are present for dead and dying animals;
    • Bait stations are removed after 7 days and unused bait is properly stored or disposed of at a community hazardous waste collection center (see Resources & Links for information about disposal of hazardous waste in your region and to find a collection center near you).

PEST EMERGENCY: When a pest emergency requires the use of pesticides we notify parents and staff in advance. (Required)


Answer “YES” if everything below is true.
If everything below is not true, answer “Steps to Yes”.

-NOTE- The following are also required for pesticide applications made by outside services contractors.

Except for the conditions noted in Standard #1 (kitchen-grade materials; self-contained, tamper resistant bait stations):
  • We follow the parent notification, posting and record keeping steps required by the California Healthy Schools Act for pesticide applications (see Resources & Links). Download info about the Healthy Schools Act (PDF document).
-- AND --
  • We take precautions to limit children’s exposure to emergency pesticides by:
    • Notifying parents with as much advance warning as possible before applying pesticides;
    • Applying the pesticide at least 48-hours before children re-enter the site;
    • Ventilating rooms and washing surfaces;
    • Using a licensed professional to apply the pesticide if appropriate or required by law.
